A significant three-day workshop in Kosovo on July 10-12 gathered key stakeholders to shape the future of the Common Regional Market (CRM) Action Plan in Kosovo. Organized by UNOPS under its Knowledge for Reform Action in the Western Balkans program and funded by the Government of Norway, the event emphasized a renewed commitment to regional economic integration.
The CRM Action Plan is a comprehensive initiative launched to enhance economic cooperation and integration among the Western Balkan governments. The plan aims to create a unified economic area that facilitates the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people, aligning closely with European Union standards and practices. This effort is pivotal in preparing the Western Balkans for eventual EU accession, fostering stability, and driving sustainable economic growth in the region.
As the current CRM Action Plan (2021-2024) approaches its conclusion, Kosovo has begun preparations for the next phase, the CRM Action Plan (2025-2028). This preparation is guided by a list of priorities shared with the Western Balkan governments by CEFTA and the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC). The draft document outlining these priorities is subject to negotiation among the Western Balkan governments, with discussions expected to start soon.
During the workshop, government officials and CRM focal points reviewed the achievements of the current CRM Action Plan (2021-2024), identifying both progress and challenges. This critical evaluation set the stage for developing concrete objectives and actionable steps for the upcoming CRM Action Plan (2025-2028).
The workshop's opening sessions focused on the role of Kosovo in the CRM and the importance of local contributions. Detailed reviews and discussions followed on the Free Movement of Goods, Services, and Horizontal Trade Measures, identifying priorities and proposing new actions. Discussions continued with a focus on Human Capital Development and the Business Enabling Environment, addressing evolving needs and challenges, and proposing new actions to foster economic growth and competitiveness. The final day centered on Digital Transformation, culminating in a comprehensive review of the proposed actions across all discussed areas. The workshop concluded with general reflections and closing remarks, underscoring the collective commitment to a cohesive and integrated regional market.
The Office of the Prime Minister successfully reviewed and coordinated all inputs for the next phase of the Common Regional Market Action Plan. The workshop gathered contact points from line ministries and other relevant agencies.
The workshop reinforced the crucial role of regional economic initiatives in driving sustainable growth and development across the Western Balkans. Participants reaffirmed their dedication to furthering regional integration, setting a collaborative path for the CRM Action Plan 2025-2028. This unified effort aims to unlock the region's full economic potential and ensure a seamless transition into the EU Single Market.
