In the context of its EU accession process, North Macedonia has been focusing on improving its negotiation capacity, among other priority areas. A clear example was a two-day training workshop held on February 6 and 7, 2025, in Skopje, as part of the technical support provided by the UNOPS "Support to European Integration of North Macedonia", project funded by Sweden and Switzerland and the Norway-UNOPS “Knowledge for Reform Action in the Western Balkans” (K4R) Program. Over 50 representatives from key institutions, including the Ministry for European Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Justice and the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, participated in the workshops.
The sessions aimed to enhance coordination and ownership of the EU accession negotiation process. They built on the already established collaboration with the Ministry for European Affairs, which included the development of roadmaps to support the country’s post-screening accession process, but also ongoing work related to the development of guidelines to support the preparation of North Macedonia’s negotiation position.
The K4R Program will continue to support North Macedonia by offering hands-on EU accession expertise, ensuring that beneficiary governments are well-equipped to navigate through the EU accession negotiation process.
