UNOPS is supporting the development of the new law on official controls in line with EU Regulation (EU) 2017/625 on official controls and other official activities performed to ensure the application of food and feed law, rules on animal health and welfare, plant health and plant protection products and other relevant regulations.
The main goal of this assignment is to amend the Official Controls Law, which is an extensive piece of legislation. The goal is that amendment of the Official Controls Law is completed, in line with EU Regulation 2017/625 by the end of 2025, so that the European Commission will include progress in the Commission’s Albania Report 2025. The work is supporting the Office of the Chief Negotiator/Department of Policy and EU Integration, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Water Administration and other related institutions such as the National Food Authority and the Institute of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine.

The assignment supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being by ensuring compliance with EU regulations on food safety, reducing health risks and strengthening public health systems.
This assignment supports SDG 2: Zero Hunger by improving food safety standards, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enabling access to safe, high-quality food for all.
